Canada Express Entry Visa: Immigrate to Canada Through Canada Permanent Residency and Express Entry

Express Entry Program

The Express Entry program is a selection system for those who meet the eligibility requirements. The system allows immigrants to apply through a points-based selection process. This process is easier than the previous selection model, known as the Federal Skilled Worker Class Program, which required applicants to complete an application form and go through several rounds of interviews.

As part of the Express Entry process, you will need to submit your application and supporting documents digitally. After that, you will need to pass a medical examination. If your application is successful and you meet all other criteria, your case will be sent to Canadian immigration authorities for review. If you are granted permanent residence status in Canada, you have 4 years to legally enter the country and become a citizen.

What Is Canada Express Entry?

In January 2015, the Canadian government dispatched another electronic migration framework that offers express entry to Canada for skilled and qualified workers.

Canada Federal Skilled Workers Program Visa

The Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) program is managed under the Express Entry system and uses the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) to rank candidates who wish to settle permanently in Canada.

Federal Skilled Workers are not required to have Canadian work experience to enter the Express Entry pool. Instead, candidates must meet a minimum points requirement based on factors such as work experience, language ability, and education.

Canada Government Skilled Trades Program

The Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) is one of the programs that is managed by the Express Entry immigration system. The FSTP is designed for foreign trade workers with work experience in eligible trade occupations to immigrate to Canada. It is not the only pathway for skilled workers to apply for permanent residence in Canada. There are also other ways to immigrate to Canada in an unskilled capacity but this will not be through a fast-track program like this one under Express Entry.

Canada Experience Class

The Canadian Experience Class is for skilled workers who have Canadian work experience and want to become permanent residents.

CEC is managed under the Express Entry system and uses the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) to rank interested candidates. Applicants who have competitive CRS scores will receive invitations to apply for Canadian permanent residence.

In order to be eligible for CEC, a candidate must have at least 12 months of full-time (or an equivalent amount of part-time), skilled work experience in Canada. The Canadian work experience must have been acquired within the previous three years from the date of the application.

CEC is not an option for foreign nationals who do not have recent Canadian work experience.

Canadian Work Experience

To count your 12 months of Canadian work experience towards your CEC application, it must meet the following conditions:

Be obtained in Canada within 36 months before the electronic Application for Permanent Residence (eAPR) submission date.
Your employment duties in Canada fall under the NOC Code Skill Level 0, A, or B.
Be lawfully obtained, and have paid work experience in Canada.

How to Apply for Canada Permanent Residency with Express Entry

There are four steps to applying for permanent residence with Express Entry:

1. Fill out the Electronic Application for Permanent Residence (C-69 form)

2. Invite your profile to be assessed for eligibility

3. If eligible, submit an application for permanent residence

4. Complete medical and security checks before immigrating to Canada

What happens after you submit your application?

After you submit your application, it will first go through a processing time of 60-120 days. If your application is approved by the Government of Canada, a letter will be sent to you confirming the decision. There will also be no charge for this letter. Once the decision has been made, you can apply for an IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) work permit from within Canada if you are coming to work or study in Canada.

What are some other ways to immigrate to Canada?

There are a few other ways to get permanent Canadian residency. For example, you may be able to immigrate under the federal skilled worker program. This is a way of getting permanent residence through a job offer. If you have an offer from a Canadian company that will provide you with a job in Canada, then you may be eligible for this program and many more like it. Another way to get permanent residence would be through provincial nominee programs like Quebec’s Quebec Immigrant Investor Program (QIIP). With QIIP, individuals can invest $800,000 CAD into the province of Quebec and then receive permanent residence in return for those funds.

If these options don’t seem appealing or are not appropriate for your situation, Express Entry may be your best bet. It is designed specifically for people who want to immigrate to Canada with their skills or business experience rather than family ties.
